Designed for a doctor who spent much of his life away from his Kumaoni roots, this residence is a quiet homecoming. The architecture and interiors weave together regional identity with contemporary living, celebrating the crafts and traditions of Kumaon in a subtle, curated manner.
A rammed earth feature wall, mud plasters (lipai), a warm fireplace, and a restored vintage Kumaoni window overlooking the kitchen from the attic lend character to the spaces. Thoughtfully handpicked and commissioned elements, from Kalamkari and customised Aipan artwork to a carved mirror and a traditional Likhai door, bring together Indian artistry and mountain craftsmanship.
Rather than recreating the vernacular, the home offers a contemporary interpretation of it, where every detail carries a sense of place, memory and belonging.
