Homestead in Kotabagh

Kotabagh lies in the Himalayan foothills, very close to the Corbett National Park. This thoughtfully designed homestead is designed as an escape for it city based owners. The design incorporates modern sustainable practices with traditional craftsmanship. The central courtyard design allows for ample natural light and ventilation, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living spaces.

Other design features:

  • Rat-trap bond walls, which provide enhanced thermal insulation but also reduce the amount of bricks required, making the structure both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. There are highlight walls built with stone river masonry sourced locally.
  • To keep the homestead cool during hot summer months, we used white metal sheets to reflect heat away from the roof, significantly lowering indoor temperatures.
  • The walls are finished with a mud-lime plaster, offering a natural and breathable finish that maintains a comfortable indoor climate year-round.
  • Our commitment to sustainability is further evidenced by the rainwater harvesting system and gravel beds along driveways and other open areas for water percolation, ensuring efficient water management and conservation.
